Magdalene Prayers 1.1

The concept for this app was inspired by an adult education initiative at Holy Cross focusing on prayer. During this program, The Rev. Martha Kuhlmann shared her Mary Magdalene Anglican prayer beads with the group, sparking the idea for a prayer bead meditation tool around the patron saint Mary Magdalene. This led to the creation of this app, as a convenient alternative to carrying physical prayer beads wherever one goes, with the added benefit of always having a mobile phone on hand. A practical and fitting solution.

The origins of Anglican Prayer Beads trace back to a generous offering by the Episcopal Diocese of Texas in the latter part of the 20th century. Differing from its Roman Catholic counterpart, the Anglican iteration consists of 33 beads arranged in four sets of seven beads each, known as weeks.

Each day of the week is symbolized by a red egg in this app, paying tribute to the intriguing narrative of Mary of Magdala presenting the gospel to Caesar. According to the story, the Roman Ruler claimed that Jesus would no more rise from the dead than an egg held by Mary could turn red. Astonishingly, the egg transformed into a vivid shade of red before their very eyes.

The selected prayers featured in this app are those that hold a special place in the creator's heart. The design is aimed at providing a user-friendly space for prayer at one's fingertips without incorporating any distracting background music - ensuring a peaceful experience even during a routine commute without causing any disruption.
